What are Cursor Rules?

Cursor rules allow you to influence how the AI operates and writes code with either Global rules that apply to everything you do in every Cursor session, or Project rules that apply and can be copied between projects. This is powerful in nudging the LLM in the right direction based on your experience and the collective experience of others.

• Create components in a particular way
• Adhere to style guides
• Installation preferences
• Remind you to commit
• Talk like a pirate :)

Where are Cursor Rules?

Cursor rules settings are located in the top right of the menu bar Cursor Settings > General > Rules for AI

Where do Cursor Rules Apply?

General Rules will be included for features such as Cursor Chat. Composer and Ctrl/⌘ K.
